Intimate Lunch-fireside Conversation with Ugandan Minister for Refugees and UNHCR
Dear Alumni and Friends of Harvard,
We have the great pleasure to invite you to an interactive and thought-provoking intimate lunch and discussion with:
- Hon. Hilary Onek, Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees (Uganda)
- Matthew Crentsil, UNHCR Representative in Uganda
Our two speakers, supported by senior team members, will provide updates on the refugee situation in Uganda which is
the country hosting the most refugees in sub-Saharan Africa. Over 91% of refugees, mainly from South Sudan, the
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi, live in villages where they co-exist with communities that host them. This
approach, combined with progressive laws and freedoms, provide refugees in Uganda with significant dignity and self-
reliance.
In coordination with the government, UNHCR and partners provide protection and humanitarian assistance to refugees in
Uganda and support efforts towards a comprehensive refugee response.
The event will take place on:
Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, at 12:15
At the Poet (Room: the Club)
19 Rue du Parnasse, 1050 Brussels
The fee for this event will be €35 for members. Please note that, due to very limited capacity (we want to make sure this is
an intimate Chatham House rules conversation), we encourage you to register early (availability is on a first come, first
served basis). Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for cancellations after the registration deadline.
If you would like to attend, please confirm your participation on Eventbrite before Friday, May 10th, 2024, via the following
link.
We hope that you will be able to join us and look forward to seeing you on May 15th, 2024.
